Taxonomy
Ammonites petersi was named by Hauer (1879). It is the type species of Ectocentrites, Cosmolytoceras.

It was recombined as Cosmolytoceras canavarii by Spath (1924); it was recombined as Ectocentrites canavarii by Geczy and Meister (2007).
