Taxonomy
Harpoceras demonense was named by Gemmellaro (1884).

It was synonymized subjectively with Tropidoceras ellipticum by Bremer (1965); it was recombined as Tropidoceras demonense by Braga and Rivas (1985), Meister (1986), Alkaya and Meister (1995), Rakús and Guex (2002), Hillebrandt (2006), Sarih et al. (2007), Geczy and Meister (2007) and Meister et al. (2011).
