Taxonomy
Wakinoichthys robustus was named by Yabumoto (1994). Its type specimen is KMNH VP 100,188, a skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Third formation (W3, KM-1), which is in a Neocomian terrestrial slate/shale in the Third Formation of Japan.
