Catenipora orbignyana was named by Klipstein (1845). It is the type species of Cassianochaetetes.
It was recombined as Leiofungia orbignyana by Laube (1865); it was recombined as Cassianochaetetes orbignyanus by Engeser and Taylor (1989).
