Buxtonioides was named by Mendes (1959) [Sepkoski's age data: C Mosc C Step Sepkoski's reference number: 1,538]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Buxtoniini by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
