Atrypa crassicostis was named by Dalman (1828) [?Atrypa crassicosta]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was corrected as Atrypa crassicosta by Dalman (1828); it was recombined as Plectothyrella crassicostis by Cocks (2008); it was recombined as Plectothyrella crassicosta by Bergström (1968), Rong and Li (1999) and Hints and Harper (2015).
