Redfieldius gracilis

Taxonomy
Catopterus gracilis was named by Redfield (1837). Its type specimen is YPM 3206, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Middlefield fish locality, which is in a Hettangian/Sinemurian terrestrial shale/siltstone in the Portland Formation of Connecticut. It is the type species of Redfieldius.

It was recombined as Redfieldius gracilis by Hay (1899), Hay (1902) and Schaeffer and McDonald (1978).

Synonyms
  • Catopterus parvulus was named by Redfield (1841). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Boonton Fish Bed, which is in a Sinemurian lacustrine - large siltstone/carbonate in the Boonton Formation of New Jersey.

    It was recombined as Redfieldius parvulus by Hay (1902); it was synonymized subjectively with Redfieldius gracilis by Bock (1959).
