Papiliolinus was named by Waterhouse and Gupta (1977) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise Sepkoski's reference number: 963]. It is not extant.
It was assigned to Auriculispininae by Williams et al. (2000); to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Auriculispinini by Waterhouse (2004), Williams et al. (2007).
