Ammonites turneri was named by Sowerby (1824).

It was recombined as Arietites turneri by Wright (1879); it was recombined as Asteroceras turneri by Bremer (1965); it was recombined as Caenisites turneri by Corna and Dommergues (1995), Macchioni et al. (2006).
