Taxonomy

Ammonites tornatus was named by Hauer (1846). It is the type species of Cladiscites.

It was recombined as Arcestes tornatus by von Mojsisovics (1873); it was recombined as Cladiscites tornatus by von Mojsisovics (1902), Spath (1951), Gamsjäger (1982), Shevyrev (1990).

Synonyms

Arcestes gefion was named by von Mojsisovics (1873). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Leisling, gelbem Marmor, which is in a Sevatian carbonate limestone in the Halstatt Formation of Austria.

It was recombined as Cladiscites gefion by von Mojsisovics (1902); it was synonymized subjectively with Cladiscites tornatus by Gamsjäger (1982), Shevyrev (1990).
Arcestes cinereus was named by von Mojsisovics (1873).

It was recombined as Cladiscites cinereus by von Mojsisovics (1902); it was synonymized subjectively with Cladiscites tornatus by Gamsjäger (1982), Shevyrev (1990).
Arcestes ruber was named by von Mojsisovics (1873). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sandling, red Gastropoden beds, which is in a Lacian carbonate limestone in the Halstatt Formation of Austria.

It was recombined as Cladiscites ruber by von Mojsisovics (1902); it was synonymized subjectively with Cladiscites tornatus by Gamsjäger (1982), Shevyrev (1990).
Ammonites aratus was named by Quenstedt (1846).

It was synonymized subjectively with Arcestes tornatus by von Mojsisovics (1873).
