Quadratia was named by Muir-Wood and Cooper (1960) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1]. It is the type genus of Quadratiinae.

It was assigned to Chonopectinae by Muir-Wood and Cooper (1960); to Quadratiinae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
