Mesolobus was named by Dunbar and Condra (1932) [Sepkoski's age data: C Bash-l P Leon-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1,7,1200].

It was assigned to Chonetidae by Hoare (1961); to Capillomesolobinae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
