Taxonomy
Palaeostrophia was named by Ulridch and Cooper (1936). Its type is Syntrophia orthia.

It was assigned to Pentamerida by Sepkoski (2002); to Tetralobulidae by Zhan et al. (2010); and to Syntrophopsinae by Williams et al. (2002), Hansen and Holmer (2011).
