Taxonomy
Sangiorgioichthys valmarensis was named by Lombardo et al. (2012). Its type specimen is MCSN 8425, a skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Val Mara D, bed 76, Meride, Monte San Giorgio, which is in a Longobardian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal limestone in the Meride Formation of Switzerland.
