Fortunella was named by Calzada (1985) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo K Apti Sepkoski's reference number: 1091]. It is not extant. Its type is Fortunella fortunae.
It was assigned to Basiliolidae by Calzada (1985); to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Basiliolinae by Williams et al. (2002).
