Taxonomy
Australosomus pholidopleuroides was named by Nielsen (1949). Its type specimen is 445, a partial skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Kap Stosch area, Fish-zone II, which is in a Griesbachian marine limestone in Greenland.
