Paranorellina was named by Dagys (1974) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen Sepkoski's reference number: 538]. Its type is Paranorellina parisi. It is the type genus of Paranorellininae.
It was assigned to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Paranorellininae by Williams et al. (2002).
