Striirhynchia was named by Buckman (1917) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo-u  Sepkoski's reference number: 1]. Its type is Striirhynchia dorsetensis. It is the type genus of Striirhynchiinae. 
It was assigned to Striirhynchiinae by Williams et al. (2002); and to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002).
