Boucotinskia was named by Brunton and Cocks (1967). Its type is Delthyris sulcata.

It was assigned to Kozlowskiellininae by Bassett and Cocks (1974); to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Araspiriferinae by Williams et al. (2006).
