Burrirhynchia oweni was named by Smirnova (2012). Its type specimen is PIN no. 4898/3066 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Tsudakhar (Unit 3), which is in an Aptian marine claystone/sandstone in the Gundara Formation of the Russian Federation.
