Taxonomy
Costispirifer was named by Copper (1942) [Sepkoski's age data: D Sieg-l D Emsi Sepkoski's reference number: 25,764]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Costispiriferinae.

It was assigned to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Costispiriferinae by Williams et al. (2006).
