Taxonomy
Fimbrispirifer was named by Cooper (1942) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi D Give-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1,25,1066]. It is the type genus of Fimbrispiriferinae.

It was assigned to Fimbrispiriferidae by Jones (1982); to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Fimbrispiriferinae by Williams et al. (2006).
