Thylechinus (Gagaria) mossomi was named by Cooke (1941) [MEASUREMENTS: First listed ecotype used for measurements.]. Its type specimen is USNM 372885, a test, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS Loc. 11116 - Blackwater Creek [Suwannee Lmst], which is in a Rupelian carbonate limestone in the Suwannee Limestone Formation of Florida.
It was recombined as Gagaria mossomi by Cooke (1959), Kier (1997).
