Erylus was named by Gray (1867) [Sepkoski's age data: Q Plei R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Erylinae.
It was assigned to Astrophorida by Sepkoski (2002); to Erylinae by Finks et al. (2004); and to Geodiidae by Pisera et al. (2006).
