Helminthophyllum was named by Schrammen (1937) [Sepkoski's age data: J Kimm-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Helminthophyllum feifeli. It is the type genus of Helminthophyllidae.
It was assigned to Astrophorida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Helminthophyllidae by Finks et al. (2004).
