Polytretia was named by Schrammen (1910) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Polytretia seriatopora.

It was assigned to Astrophorida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cephaloraphiditidae by Finks et al. (2004).
