Platyclymenia (Platyclymenia) alterna was named by Jenkins (1968). Its type specimen is USGD 6838, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Keepit Dam, which is in a Famennian marine sandstone in the Mandowa Mudstone Formation of Australia.
