Pericyclus (Goniocyclus) rockymontanus was named by Gordon (1986). Its type specimen is USNM 377534, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS 15229-PC, which is in a Kinderhookian/Ivorian marine limestone in the Lodgepole Limestone Formation of Montana.
