Taxonomy
Goniatites contiguus was named by Munster (1832). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Schübelhammer (Münster collection), which is in a Famennian marine horizon in the Wapnica Formation of Germany.
It was recombined as Posttornoceras contiguum by Sobolew (1912), Korn and Klug (2002), Becker (2002) and Woroncowa-Marcinowska (2006); it was recombined as Ebbighausenites contiguus by Korn et al. (2016).
