Taxonomy
Mitorthoceras girtyi was named by Gordon (1964). Its type specimen is USNM 119602, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS 7089 green, Round Mountain, which is in a Brigantian carbonate limestone in the Fayetteville Formation of Arkansas.
