Taxonomy
Stearoceras smithi was named by Gordon (1964). Its type specimen is LSJU 5590, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Conway County, south of Morrilton, which is in a Bashkirian marine siliciclastic in the Atoka Formation of Arkansas.
