Taxonomy
Gastrioceras formosum was named by McCaleb (1963). Its type specimen is SUI 10450, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Natural Dam, Locality 1, Lee Creek, which is in a Morrowan coastal sandstone in the Witts Springs Formation of Arkansas.
