Strophomena nitens was named by Billings (1860). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Rafinesquina nitens by Schuchert (1897); it was recombined as Leptaena nitens by Twenhofel (1928); it was recombined as Megamyonia nitens by Stearn (1956), Jin et al. (1997).
