Taxonomy
Ammonites vishnu was named by Forbes (1846). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pondicherry, which is in a Maastrichtian marine sandstone/claystone in the Valudavur Formation of India. It is the type species of Brahmaites (Anabrahmaites).

It was recombined as Brahmaites (Anabrahmaites) vishnu by Kennedy and Henderson (1992), Ward and Kennedy (1993), Kennedy and Hancock (1993) and Kennedy (1995).
