Antrospongia was named by Rigby and Chatterton (1989) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl-l Sepkoski's reference number: 880]. It is not extant. Its type is Antrospongia aberrans.

It was assigned to Anthaspidellidae by Rigby and Chatterton (1989); to Lithistida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Streptosolenidae by Finks et al. (2004).
