Taxonomy
Cladiscites subtornatus was named by Mojsisovics (1882). Its type specimen is GBA 1873/005/0105/03, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Hypocladiscites.

It was recombined as Hypocladiscites subtornatus by von Mojsisovics (1902), Spath (1951), Gamsjäger (1982), Tatzreiter and Zorn (2013).
