Taxonomy
Pinacoceras transiens was named by von Mojsisovics (1873). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Leisling, beds with Trach. giebeli, which is in a Lacian carbonate limestone in the Halstatt Formation of Austria.

It was recombined as Megaphyllites transiens by von Mojsisovics (1902).
