Taxonomy
Orthoceras virgatum was named by de Sowerby and Murchison (1839) [Sowerby in Murchison 1839. = Orthoceras angulatum Wahlenberg, 1821 – M’Coy 1855, p. 313;]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Kionoceras virgatum by Holland (2000), Holland and Copper (2008).
