Hexameroceras scotorum was named by Lamont (1978). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Henshaw Burn, which is in a Telychian marine mudstone/siltstone in the Wether Law Linn Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Octameroceras scotorum by Holland (2000).
