Cariniferella costellata was named by Cooper and Dutro (1982) [= Cariniferella iowensis Stainbrook, 1945, pl. 1, fig. 29 (other figures are C. iowensis).]. Its type specimen is USNM 201214, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
