Chalaropegma was named by Schrammen (1910) [Sepkoski's age data: K u]. It is not extant. Its type is Chalaropegma cerebriformis.

It was assigned to Lithistida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Megarhizidae by Finks et al. (2004).
