Taxonomy

Xenambonites undosus was named by Cooper (1956). Its type specimen is USNM 117468h and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 0.2 miles southeast of Pratt Ferry, which is in a Chazyan open shallow subtidal limestone in the Pratt Ferry Formation of Alabama.

Diagnosis

A. Williams 1962	Transversely semi-oval biconvex Xenambonites with a gently convex folded pediele valve, no more than two-fifths as long as wide, and a braehial valve initially gently concave but becoming genieulate ventrally at the 2.7-mm. growth-stage, postero-lateral zones of the genieulation disposed at angles of about 35 ~ with the hinge-line, median dorsal suleus just under two-thirds of the length of the braehial valve; ornamentation consisting of fine eostellae numbering about 10 per millimetre antero-medianly with two of them commonly strongly accentuated to form boundaries to the fold and suleus, and also subdued rugae, arranged like bars across the shell parallel with the hinge-line; pseudodeltidium small and apical, ventral muscle-sear about one-third as long as the pediele valve, widely splayed, over twice as broad as long and contained anteriorly by a pair of ridges diverging from a median ridge which divides the muscle-field; lophophore platform strongly elevated especially medianly, where it is drawn out to a point, about a third as long asthe brachial valve and almost twice as wide as long, subcircular depressions on the platform immediately anterior to the widely divergent socket ridges, possibly representing adductor scars, dorsal vascula media simple and impressed on the shoulders of the sulcus.
