Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
J. Jin and P. Copper 2000Shell medium-sized, slightly transverse, with average length 23.4 mm, width 24.7 mm, thickness 19.0 mm, and greatest length 28.0 mm, width 29.8 mm, thickness 22.7 mm (Text-fig. 41), subcircular to subrhomboidal in outline, strongly biconvex, with pedicle valve 1.2-1.4 times as deep as brachial valve. Hingeline straight, attaining about three-fourths of shell width. Anterior commissure uniplicate.

Ventral umbo high, tumid, strongly convex, rising about 3.5 mm above hingeline, with beak strongly curved, arching over but generally not touching dorsal umbo; interarea not developed; delthyrium small, devoid of deltidial covering, partly or completely obscured by dorsal umbo and beak; ventral sulcus relatively shallow, developed in anterior 1/3 of valve, with convex floor, extending into prominent, trapezoidal tongue protruding dorsa-anteriorly. Dorsal umbo relatively small, strongly convex, rising slightly abm e hingeline. Fold well developed only near anterior margin, with prominent re-entrant to accommodate tongue of pedicle valve. Shell surface smooth except for fine growth lines (about 5 per I mm).

Spondylium relatively large, deep, occupying about 1/3-1/2 of valve depth (Text-fig. 42). Median septum high, extending anteriorly for about 1/5-1/6 of shell length in relatively large specimens. Teeth well developed. Vascular system present as fine, radial canals preserved only in anterior 1/2 of pedicle valve. Outer plates low, strongly divergent from each other (110-140°) towards shell floor in cross-section of their anterior ends. Inner plates thick, enclosing small hinge sockets. Bases of brachial processes partly buried in junctions of outer and inner plates, forming inconspicuous carinae only anteriorly. Muscle field deeply impressed, marked by 2 prominent longitudinal ridges.
