Strophomena fluctuosa was named by Billings (1860) [GSC 2017 is a hypotype: the type has been lost.
not Strophomena fluctuosa Billings; Winchell and Schuchert 1893, p. 395, Pl. 31, figs. 14-17. (= Strophomena occidentalis Foerste 1912)]. Its type specimen is GSC 2017, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Luhaia fluctuosa by Dewing (1995); it was recombined as Gunnarella fluctuosa by Dewing (1999); it was recombined as Nasutimena fluctuosa by Jin and Zhan (2001).
