Tetracystis was named by Schuchert (1904) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl-u S Prid Sepkoski's reference number: 328]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Apiocystitinae by Beaver et al. (1967); to Rhombifera by Sepkoski (2002); and to Callocystitidae by Paul and Rozhnov (2016).
