Taxonomy
Glyptosphaerites was named by Müller (1854). It is the type genus of Glyptosphaeritidae.

It was assigned to Diploporita by Sepkoski (2002); and to Glyptosphaeritidae by Regnéll (1945), Mergl and Prokop (2006).
