Polytropis zonata was named by Koken and Perner (1925) [Polytropis? zonata Koken in Koken & Perner 1925]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Skien, which is in a Pirgu marine limestone in the Herøya Formation of Norway.
It was recombined as Oriostoma zonata by Wagner (2023).
