Delthyris raricosta was named by Conrad (1842).
It was recombined as Spirifera raricosta by Hall (1867), Walcott (1884); it was recombined as Kozlowskiella (Megakozlowskiella) raricosta by Boucot (1957); it was recombined as Kozlowskiellina (Megakozlowskiella) raricosta by Boucot and Johnson (1968); it was recombined as Megakozlowskiella raricosta by Johnson (1970).
