Triplesia grayiae was named by Davidson (1870) [Triplesia Grayiae]. It is the type species of Epacroplecia.
It was recombined as Cliftonia grayiae by Reed (1917); it was recombined as Epacroplecia grayiae by Williams (1962) and Mitchell (1977); it was recombined as Craigella grayiae by Candela and Harper (2014).

Williams 1962 | Trigonal, unequally biconvex Epacroplecia with a short hinge-line less than one-half the maximum width of the shell; adult brachial valves over four-fifths as long as wide and about two-thirds as deep as long and so strongly inflated in a trilobate manner as to produce an auriculate effect in the postero-lateral areas; dorsal fold commonly sharp and arising at about 4 mm. anterior to the umbo; radial ornamentation consisting of fine, equal costellae, between 6 and 8 per millimetre; ventral umbo commonly long, erect, pedicle valve gently convex and strongly geniculate to project dorsally as a median tongue. |
