Orthis kilbuchoensis was named by Davidson (1883) [Orthis vel Strophomena ? Kilbuchoensis].

It was recombined as Palaeostrophomena kilbuchoensis by Williams (1962).

A. Williams 1962Elongately semi-ellipitical, rarely auriculate, biplanate Palaeostrophomena almost threefifths as long as wide, rarely with a dorsal median fold and ornamented by 8-12 costellae per millimetre antero-medianly and low, closely spaced rugae with a wave-length of about 0-25 mm. arranged concentrically to the umbo; ventral vascula media initially parallel or divergent, branching at almost one-half the length of the pedicle valve; notothyrial platform prolonged anteriorly as a pair of subparallel lateral ridges lying in front of the socket ridges as well as a pair of submedian ridges embracing a median septum.
